The Internet Security Alliance has invited 40 private sector companies to the White House to join in a special conference today on expanding the cyber security workforce in America.

The conference will feature a mix of government and private sector firms and focus on how the United States can stimulate the creation of a larger and more sophisticated cyber workforce.

Among the top government speakers will be DHS Secretary Janet Napolitano, - Deputy Under Secretaries Chris Cummiskey and Mark Weatherford. Among the top private sector speakers will be Larry Clinton, President of the Internet Security Alliance and Mike Papay, Vice President, Cyber Initiatives, Northrop Grumman Information Systems.

“The world is becoming increasingly competitive and some entities are not competing through honest innovation but through cyber theft of our intellectual property and business operations know how. Defense in the cyber world is not just a government responsibility but an enterprise and individual responsibility," said Larry Clinton, President of the Internet Security Alliance.

"Most cyber breaches are not conducted by hackers from the outside but poorly trained or rogue insiders. The primary vulnerability in the cyber system is the people.  Unless we find a way to spur the market to create a cyber secure workforce we risk unilaterally disarming both our economy and our national defense.”

Clinton enthusiastically endorsed the White House event, which he said was fully consistent with the ISA mission to integrate advanced technology with economics and public policy to create a sustainable system of cyber security.

“Some countries treat their cyber prodigies like they were future Olympic gymnasts, identifying them and nurturing them. We have nothing like that at all here and we need to. For DHS and the White House to step forward and lead us in this direction shows true leadership toward our long term security.”
